Thursday at last! :la:

Awesome work with the limericks last week! We were very impressed by all your rhymes. One could say you really hit it out of the park. :slow:

We have our three winners!

:star: blueheron93
There once was a bowler, quite lame.
Ardent Ashlee was her nickname.
She cheered at her spare,
Threw her hands in the air
Only to see it was in the wrong lane.

:star: callerofcrows
The hockey team glared at their mate.
He thought, "Well, isn't this great!"
"I lost Andy's dare,
so I dress I did wear,
and now I'm "that kid" they all hate!"

See the full story here!

:star: BonslyGuy
Golf is a game that will bring home the goods
And congregate fans from all neighborhoods
You'd really enjoy it
Though greed can destroy it
Especially if your name is Woods.

And a special honorable mention to Jonas72 and Moosplauze for their awesome limerick comment thread here!

For this week, we want you to explore your imagination. In the spirit of Llamahog Day, your task is to create a hybrid of two animals and depict what it would look like in a dA muro comment to this Journal!

We all know about the llamahog, liger, and centaur. But what about otterfish? Giraffecat? Your creation is completely up to you!

Once you've got an idea, post a comment to this Journal with:
:bulletyellow: Your creation's name
:bulletyellow: A short description
:bulletyellow: A drawing of it in a dA muro comment

:target: Your entry must have all three of the above to be considered for the prize!

We'll choose three winners who will be chosen based on creativity, inclusion of all three elements above, uniqueness, visual impact, and wildness. Our three winners will receive the Black dA Laptop Messenger Bag and 500 Points!

Get your entries in by Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 11:59 PM Los Angeles, CA, time. This contest is open to all Premium Members! :la:

The Leonyfen ( Lee-oh-nee-fen )
This hybrid cross between a snow leopard and a lionfish can be found in the extreme climates, whether it is the heat of the tropics or the freezing of the icy regions. This unique mammal can not only breathe under the surface of water with the gills on its throat, but can also thrive on land. They have an interesting cross of fur and smooth skin that allows for the coming and going as they please. The body of the Leonyfen actually semi resembles that of an otter. Interesting features are the webbed digits, poisonous spikes along the tail, and fin-like appendages. With colours that closely resemble both species, the white and black stripes and spots help the Leonyfen to be a well distinguished predator. Depending on the are of which it resides the Leonyfen will also have coloured areas that determine the environment that it was raised. In the example below the spots are a light glacier blue that represents the icy habitat. The main diet of the Leonyfen is squid, fish, and smaller land herbivores such as snow shoe hares depending on the current location. The Leonyfen uses its tentacle-like appendages to emit a zap to the prey, leaving it stunned. As the prey is stuck there with no chance of escape, the Leonyfen uses either its long sharp teeth or its venom. They are incredibly fast in water and on land so they can easily catch prey and escape danger. When it comes to human contact, the Leonyfen is very timid. They take care to stay close to the caves and reefs that they inhabit. These creatures are extremely rare and hard to come by so not many people have actually seen them. If they had seen them, it probably would have ended close to the super bowl commercial with the car and the cheetah.

The (very weird and sort of half-assed) Elebird.
I'm sure people have done this before, but let's get on with this, shall we?

The Elebird's size ranges from the size of a normal songbird to the size of a household cat. Yes, it is small(-ish). Its long, flexible beak can snatch its food (e.g berries, seeds, leaves, etc.) from a long distance. It can also use its tusks to stab at food that is up close.

These Elebirds mostly live in place with decent rainfall and plenty of wildlife.

:)

Scorporilla

The gorilla knew his strength and power and used it to control its territory. Behold, a day walking quietly in his mountain in the Congo, he was stayed by a small scorpion that seemed harmless before the giant gorilla. But the gorilla discovered that more powerful than himself, was that little scorpion. And after an agonizing night to the brink of death, the gorilla was revived in the form of a creature more powerful than he and Scorpion together, the deadly and invincible Scorporilla.

Lepus Gryphus

The whole reason behind the animal's creation is because of mad experiments by a geneticist that would rather not be named. He will, however, disclose his gender: male. As a child, he grew up in a semi-rural area where FFA and 4H was very common for young boys. His father raised chickens, and once the boy was old enough to make his own decisions, he started raising fryer rabbits, normally limiting them to Flemish Giants and New Zealands. His father raised namely Orpington chickens, of the black, blue and white variety. The boy showed both the rabbits and chickens at fairs, along with a select few other farm animals.

When the boy was old enough to pick his own career, he began studying agriculture, but came across genetics as a subject instead. He studied for years, dabbling in other useful areas as well, until he was qualified to find a prestigious job. Eventually he picked up his own side project. Modeling after his childhood experiences, he attempted to graft a rabbit and a chicken together. He spent his lifetime on the project, but eventually his ideal dreams became reality.

The bunny gryphon is a flighty creature, as both the animals it was spawn from are. It has its curious moments and can be trained to be quite friendly, though the training begins at birth. The young are born live with peach fuzz hair and without feathers. The bunny gryphon is fully developed at two months of age, but is not mature until seven months of age. They normally do not hold aggressive tendencies.

Here I was, thinking that I could post the picture from my gallery or something that I made on a different section instead of drawing it right in the comments. I spent hours on it, and now I have less than an hour to post it. Wonderful. Though I doubt this will be counted, here's the link.

so my Chamelish is an " Amphibian " which means he can breathe both underwater and above water :D

I'm starting to give up winning anything from these competition even though I do my best every time :(

but then I remember the lyrics "
All of the odds are, they're in my favor
Something's bound to begin
It's gonna happen, happen sometime
Maybe this time I'll win

'Cause, everybody, they love a winner
So nobody loved me
Lady Peaceful, Lady Happy
That's what I long to be

Eagle-Tiger

The Eagle-Tiger was born when the magic of a temple of Buddhist monks managed to fertilize an egg of an eagle with a drop of blood of a sacred tiger of the monastery. The result of this baptism of blood is the Eagle-Tiger. It would be normal if a tiger had no legs and wings of an eagle and not fly the skies of central asia roaring at dusk and turning cause of many legends among the locals.

This is my Hybrid. He is a cross between a two-toed sloth and a lion. It is commonly referred to as the "Serengeti Sloth" and can be found, as its name suggests, in the dry Serengeti lands. It is an omnivore and feeds mostly on vegetation and small mammals, but will occasionally catch a lizard or a small bird. Their movements, like the sloth, are typically slow, but when in danger or when hunting, can have sudden quick movements. They are adept at climbing and spend most of the time as the picture depicts, hanging in typical sloth fashion.

Ok, so this is my first time using DA Muro, so forgive me... this took me over an hour to do :p

This is apparently what happens when a rat and Parot mate. They have wings for flying and use there rat like tails to help them balance really well .They eat fruits and insects. Par-rats are easily domesticated but are not popular pets because of there strange appearance.

Cheetah-bird.

A timid creature, the cheetah-bird chirps when scared. They are agile flyers, and fast runners.

I made this hybrid up ages ago in school. Never drew it on dA before. :P

I present to you the Hybra!

This , until now, unimaginable animal came to be during a toxic waste accident in Africa. It involved a lot of unfortunate zebras and hyenas.
This is the first and only picture taken of the Hybra and most likely the last too. Scientists believe that this species will have the shortest time ever on this earth because of their mass suicide or should we call it mass self cannibalism.....

My drawing here made in DA Muro: [link] :happybounce:

(.... I also just realized that I should have drawn it here. thought I could "open" the image.. sigh.. -_-)

xDDD

► Mantipotamus:
Height: 1,5 mts. tall
Weight: 84 kgs (only the head), 26 kgs (only the body).
This animal defies the gravity: It amazes the strength they have in their body, that can bear the head. Sometimes, there are birds on it, cleaning parasites.
When they defend their territory, they use kung fu techinques. Bruce Lee admited he was inspired in this animal for make his movements.
They live mainly in the water, and can hold their breath during 7 hours.
They born from eggs.

SquixyFox

The squixyFox is a very squishy tiny creature that has a fox head and a squid body. It's smaller than the palm of someone's hand, and bigger than a newborn baby's foot. They like to bite people's fingers, and eat mushrooms. Having one will always make your home clean. :3

The Batarang, part bat part orangutan.

This tree-dwelling ape is a peaceful, rarely seen creature, especially since it's nocturnal. They eat mainly fruits and seeds, and sometimes large insects. They suffer from the unfortunate compulsion to suddenly hurl themselves at passing supervillains. It is possible this is the main reason they are critically endangered.

The Killer Whemming, a hybrid of the killer whale and the Norway lemming. :star: [link] :star:

The Killer Whemming is a fierce creature; an apex predator dwelling in Arctic and Antarctic waters. Its bold color pattern makes it easily discernible from other similar species such as the whamster and the sherbil. It is a mammal, requiring both water and air to breathe, and thus it often surfaces. People speculate that it is killer whemmings that were often mistaken for mermaids in the past when seen by sailors through the fog, and their beautiful song added to the misconception.
The killer whemming uses both its powerful jaws and sharp claws when hunting, tearing at its prey with its claws to mortally wound it while keeping it from escaping with its strong bite. It primarily feeds on seals and fish, and often hunts in pods numbering up to 30 individuals. Sophisticated echolocation helps them track their prey, while sensitive whiskers help them sense nearby creatures and objects, and also to detect the flow of currents, further helping them track their prey. They also have sophisticated communication, which to human ears sounds like a beautiful song.
The killer whemming can live over 80 years, however it is an endangered species, hunted near to extinction for its unique fur. When threatened, they will emit high-pitched squeaks and short, repeated growls, and will lunge violently at their attacker with both tooth and claw. Many also die during migration, when competition to reach the spawning grounds causes some to injure others fatally along the way. Due to the large numbers that would end up dying before migration had ended, people used to believe they committed mass suicide. Now, science knows otherwise.

I am a noob at digital art and started drawing it in normal muro before I realized it had to be in a comment. $Ayame-Kenoshi said I could do it this way so I didn't have to start over. Sorry, I'm very paranoid about being disqualified, so here is the proof... [link]

Sry I couldn't post the comment with the drawing :S . Anyway, this is Ratagon. It's the child of a rat and a dragon. It's size is a bit larger than human size. It hunts birds of all kinds and lives in little dragon lairs. It's bite is deadly and it's pretty fast when it runs on the ground. Its little wings help it to fly when it hunts for birds :).

I call it the chamelion GET IT? /shot

Anyway, the chamelion has the body of a lion and the top-half of a chameleon as you can see, meaning that if the chamelion wanted to hide away, the bottom half of it would have to be hidden in the bushes or something. The chamelion is roughly the size of a piglet, 'cause I think that's roughly in between the size of a lion and a chameleon.. not that I measured 'em or anything <_<'
It's roar is pretty huge and can be heard 3 miles away, it's an omnivore; it's favourite meal is sausage-flavoured tofu. eee..
It's pretty agrresive at first, but when you get to know it, it's just a big softie that loves getting petted..

The end!

The Humming raptor (Humming Bird+Raptor)
VelociColibri
This small predatory avian/reptilian creature is found in Dark deep jungles of a prehistoric alternate earth. It feasts on smaller dinosaurs and nectar giving it a variety of food sources to choose from. It has a deadly sharp bill, small serrated teeth and large sharp forearms that it can use to grip its prey. It has small metallic feathers all over its body that glimmer in the light but appear dull in the dark. During mating season the males produce luciferase-luciferin-ATP complex and bring it to the surface of their skin lighting up their feathers giving them a faint glow to attract mates.
